In the depths of night, the changelings come out to play
By Mike Fernandez
A new wave of New York kids is coming out to play in downtown Manhattan: hosting parties, modeling, re-purposing the nightlife as their catwalk. These midnight apparitions show love and audacity through the spirit of DIY fashion. Underneath this fabric we find self-respect, defiance, and emancipation—a design to reclaim one's identity.
The immediacy of poses struck, changing personas, and form are captured in the framed minimalism of a polaroid.
While the splendor is DIY at its core, it's edged in sophistication, inspired by Alexander McQueen and Yayoi Kusama. Drawing back, Changelings is a celebration of a youthful New York community, rising out of prejudice to find its soul and sense of ownership in the city.
